Journal Entry #3 –
First week Dunbar students come (Date: October 6th and 8th)
This
week was my time to shine. After a week of assignments, presentations and
lesson planning, it was finally time for me take control of an entire
classroom. Although I had a partner, or co-teacher, I didn’t have much of a
choice other than to take majority of the workload myself. Seeing as I paired
myself with a first-year student in their first semester of college, one who
was also homeschooled since elementary school; I should have done more to
motivate her and I should have expressed the importance of a group effort in
college. Through all the adversity and tension, we managed to develop an
efficient and successful lesson plan.
Once
the kids arrived and the day began, I felt confident in my lesson plan and I
was able to see all of my hard work pay off. It was great experience being able
to meet all of the excited and eager students from Dunbar. Many of them told me
that they look forward to coming back to Randolph each week and it warms my
heart knowing that did something right with these young pre-teens. I can’t wait
to see what next week has in store for me.
